A New Career Path

"You cannot swim for new horizons until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore " - William Faulkner

This quote resonates with me deeply, especially as I navigate a significant transition in my own career. After years of working in the Petroleum industry, I've come to realize that the horizon I am aiming for is one that blends my technical skills with my passion for people.

As a petroleum engineer, I spent my time solving complex technical problems and being part of teams developing policies that shape our energy space. Yet, what truly fueled my drive was not just the technical aspect of the work, but the opportunity to support and work alongside my colleagues. My real passion is always in understanding people, fostering collaboration, and helping others succeed.

My journey into people-focused work started back in the university when I actively participated in peer counseling. Listening to my peers and co-creating effective solutions with them concerning their studies, relationships and family life always made me feel good about my contribution to society. I found fulfillment in offering guidance and just lending a listening ear. This experience opened my eyes to the power of empathy and support in professional and personal growth.

Additionally, in my previous roles, I had the privilege of working closely with clients, developing strong relationships and resolving their concerns. Whether it was guiding them through complex issues or helping them achieve their goals, I realized that at the heart of my professional satisfaction was always my desire to make a difference in people's lives.

It's a fact that we spend a good amount of our active time at work. We form friendship, face challenges, grow and contribute to something greater than ourselves. Thus, our ability to live a fulfilling life is directly linked to our work life and its impact. For me, this realization brought me to Human Resource Management, a field that directly shapes the way people experience work, collaborate and grow within organizations.

Now, I'm excited to take the next step in my HR journey, and I'm thrilled to announce that I am a mentee in the hashtag#NationalHRMentorshipProgram. This program connects emerging HR professionals with seasoned mentors to provide guidance, share knowledge and create a collaborative network to support the next generation of HR leaders.

I envision that this transition will be challenging, but I also know that is a worthwhile journey and would be a deeply rewarding experience. I'm continuing my education through HR certification, mentorship and hands-on experiences to ensure I can make a meaningful impact.

It is my dream that the workplace should be a place where people feel seen, heard, and empowered. I'm excited to help make that a reality.

We should never be afraid to do new things. Some things in life are worth the risks that comes with them. And I firmly believe a fulfilling career is one that impact others positively and we are all at liberty to define the kind of impact we want to make. So take that bold step, even if the outcome does not align with our initial expectations, the lessons learned and the resilience developed through the process can lead to unexpected growth. Embrace the adventure that comes with pursuing new endeavors, and you may just find that it leads you to places you never imagined possible.

Enjoy a great weekend folks.
