Gratitude grounded in Faith

There was a woman who came to church not with a prayer prepared, but with a mind overflowing. Her thoughts arrived all at once. There was gratitude and distraction, praise and weariness, faith and noise. All these were colliding like waves that refused to take turns. She tried to gather them into words, but they slipped through her fingers faster than she could hold them.
So she stood still.
All around her, others were praying aloud confidently with structured and eloquent words. She wondered if her scattered thoughts disqualified her from being heard. But then she remembered what the Word of God says: “The Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought.” —1 Chronicles 28:9. It struck her then. She did not need to organize what God already understood. Her lips barely moved, but her heart spoke honestly: “Lord, You know.”
And He did.
For Scripture says there was once another woman like her called Hannah whose grief and hope tangled together so tightly that no clear sentence could escape her mouth. Yet God heard her. Not because her prayer was articulate, but because it was real.
The woman in church felt something settle within her. That even in the chaos of thought, God was not confused. That even when gratitude felt insufficiently expressed, it was still received. She remembered that in Psalm 139:4, the Scriptures says “Before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.”
When she left the church, her thoughts were still many. Her life was still full. But her heart was steady. She knew, without a shadow of doubt, that there was a God who is always interceding for her. And in that knowing, she is at peace.
Happy New Year, folks. As we step into this year, let us do so with gratitude and trust. With God, we are never alone.
