The Peace of God

Updated: Dec 8, 2023

So when the Bible talked about the peace of God surpassing all understanding, it really did mean just that. Phillipians 4:7: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The past couple of weeks have been overwhelmimg to say the least. Lemme take you back a bit.

One sunday as we were about closing from church, the preacherman asked us to receive the blessings of God. He only said a few words and I quote "Enjoy the peace of God this week in Jesus Name". I said Amen and went home.

Whenever I receive the benediction at church, I meditate on it throughout the week and always on the lookout for it. On the weeks he said we will enjoy financial breakthroughs, I am always anticipating it with full vim and faith. And it usually works.

So on this day when he said peace, I thought it was going to be a cool and uneventful week. You know, just a normal week as usual.

Well I was not entirely correct...lol

When a certain preacher was asked to define peace, he gave an imagery of a bird in a nest on a tall tree, there was wind and rain and the tree was seriously shaking. However the bird remained calm and composed.

I have come to understand the peace of God in a different way. When situations are crushing you from every side but you do not lose your sanity or sense of being. You don't become bitter against the people who say all manner of lies against you, neither are you depressed about challenging life issues. It really surpasses understanding. There is another level of enlightenment that comes to be when bad situations, events and people are unable to control how you live or become because there is this inner peace that just confounds you and everyone around you.

During these times, what helped aside from having a really supportive family and friends who go out of their way to make sure I am okay, was browsing the internet for scriptures that talk about the peace of God. I read these scriptures on my phone and repeat them to myself several times during the day.

Along with clinging onto the promise of peace which "transcends all understanding", there are actions to take that will help you attain that peace: they seem so simple but can be so hard when you’re going through difficult times - but persevere!

• rejoice in the Lord

• give thanks

• pray

• think about good things

Let us not be too quick to rush out of situations when they come our way. Let's have the mindset that it is a way we get to experience another level of the peace of God.

Have a peaceful week folks.

And the song I've been listening to these past weeks is The Story I'll tell by Naomi Raine. Give it a listen and tell me what you think.
