WHAT IS A MIRROR TO A BLIND MAN?

Updated: Jul 12, 2024

In response to the question “how do you sell a mirror to a blind man?”, some of the answers you are likely to hear include,

1.Convince him that a mirror is one of the beautiful things in the world and though he cannot see in it, there will always be a replication of him who is never going to leave him, not even in the worst condition of life.

2.Make him buy one for his wife, kids or friend and tell him how it would be both funny and cool to receive a mirror as a gift from a blind man.

3.Tell the blind person the mirror will bring his sight back!

This is what happens to us in all other aspects of life. The companies sell us hope in view of the fact that immediately you watch their adverts, they give you a target, and just like that you are in a race, a race to perfection. They promise to fill the emptiness in our lives, by creating the vacuum themselves. You either embrace imperfection or join the stooges in the uncertain race to perfection.

The idea that a good vendor should be able to sell a 2022 calendar in the year 2023 is rather a slackened position to take. There are vendors who act as if the customer is an idiot and there are vendors who treat the customer as a king.

I take to be true strongly that any vendor that sells a mirror to a blind man will not succeed in sales or marketing, simply because the blind have no need for a mirror! The merchandise was likely sold in an unconventional manner.

One would expect an ideal vendor to build a relationship of trust that stands the test of time with the clients by systematically selling desirable products.

When you have the opportunity to speak to a client who does not necessarily need your service or product, there is no wisdom and reward in fooling them to patronize you owing to the fact that you are not fulfilling a need or creating any value. You cannot scale up neither can you make a lot of money doing it.

It is not only rewarding but hugely satisfying to briefly educate them and become a trusted adviser. Cheers.

Selling a mirror to a blind man is akin to forcing debt restructuring down the throat of sick pensioners.
